Web import, update and restoring products from a backup

Do you want to transfer products from any system to IdoSell Shop or update the offer on-line, based on the wholesaler's feed? Or maybe you want to restore lost data from a backup? If you answered yes to any of the questions, our system for importing and updating the product database is the solution for you.

The tool can be found in the administration panel in the PRODUCTS/ Product import, update and restore - it is used for bulk data entry of products and has been divided into four modes:

Principle of operation

Taking care of your safety, each mode consists of three stages:

  1. upload
  2. verify
  3. import.

Thanks to them, you have full control over individual data operations.

We have modeled the tool on the already tested customer import module. First, you upload a file from the indicated source. This file is downloaded to our server, then analyzed automatically and presented for verification of the set context of individual tags (XML) or columns (CSV). After mapping the information, the products are loaded into the cache. After verifying the correctness of the data by the store operator, the products are ready to be synchronized with the store's database, waiting to be launched. The module supports the most popular data formats: IOF, XML and CSV. We recommend using the fully supported open IOF format .

The module for restoring the products from the backup is slightly different. In this case, we focused on simplicity and the assumption was to quickly respond to deletions or undesirable modifications to descriptions, prices, photos, attachments, etc. We have expanded the backup mechanism by archiving photos and attachments. We have also enriched the tool for importing and updating products with a new functionality of restoring products from backups. Now, all you have to do is choose a backup (created automatically) from a specific point and choose:

  • Do you want to restore all or only selected products
  • Do you want to restore selected items or full information by restoring the state to the moment of creating the backup

When creating the tool, we took into account large online stores. Therefore, the module is designed so that it will work even for a large offer, e.g. tens of thousands of products, each of which can have up to several hundred features.

Supported data formats

The data source for a new tool can be a local file, remote URL, text or backup. The module supports the most popular data formats: IOF, XML and CSV. To ensure maximum safety of the tool we have equipped it with a data buffer to which the products from a given source are loaded and only after the data is verified by the user, the final product import to the store base takes place.

CSV and XML files can have different structure and different field names. If the data format used is a file in the IOF XML structure - our module will automatically recognize all field types. If you use files with a different data structure, our tool will allow you to properly map fields from the file to the appropriate characteristics of the item in the panel. The mapping mechanism starts automatically just after verification of the import file structure. Adjusting of the field from the source to the structure required by the IdoSell Shop panel comes down to assigning appropriate names.

Is it better to use the web module to update the product database or the IAI Downloader app?
