Sending emails from your store through Microsoft servers? Enable Microsoft account authentication instead of a less secure connection via SMTP

If you send e-mails from the store through Microsoft servers, it is already possible to authenticate the connection to the server with a Microsoft account. We have implemented a solution similar to the one we made available for Google accounts a few weeks ago. As of October 1, 2022, Microsoft, for the support of e-mail accounts, will begin to successively disable authentication of the connection via SMTP (i.e., by providing the login and password for the account).

Microsoft account authentication is more secure than SMTP connection, thanks to the use of the more modern OAuth 2.0 protocol, and it does not require the user to provide sensitive account access data (i.e., Microsoft account login and password) to third-party applications. Therefore, whether you use a paid or free service, we encourage you to set up the new connection method. As of October 1, 2022, Microsoft, for email account support, will begin to successively disable SMTP connection authentication. For this reason, it's a good idea to enable Microsoft account authentication now.

What do I need to do?

If you use an email address such as YourOnlineStore@outlook.com or an account on your own domain, which is supported by Microsoft e-mail, you will need to authenticate for the email server with this account - just as you do when logging in with your Microsoft account for web services.

To do this, go into e-mail account edit (Administration / System / Configuration of email and SMS accounts) and select the new account type "sent from Microsoft server e.g. Office 365, Outlook."

After clicking the "Sign in to Microsoft service" button, a new tab will open in your browser, and you will be asked to sign in with your Microsoft account. You will need to give the consents needed to enable sending emails from the IdoSell panel.

After completing these steps, you will automatically return to the page in the administration panel where you can configure email accounts. After a successful operation, the email account will be authenticated and sending transactional emails, newsletters, etc. will be done just as before, but no longer by connecting to an SMTP server, but through the more secure OAuth 2.0 protocol.

Microsoft account authentication for sending e-mails from Microsoft servers will be available on all IdoSell panels until 5.01.22.
