Background panel tasks - a new mechanism optimizing your store during large operations

We provide services to a growing number of large online stores and some modules, such as reports, sometimes require huge calculations. Due to the fact that some operations could exceed the limits of memory or time which for security reasons we impose on programs, we have proactively created a completely new mechanism - background panel tasks. This mechanism does not block sessions or even the whole database. In the future it will allow us to build a completely new class of tools, such as reports, without giving up the quick operation of the store, the need to run additional servers, etc.

In the first place, adding new ones and removing old stores will be transferred to the background panel tasks. Removing or adding the store will be forwarded to the operation queue and made at the nearest convenient time without influencing store's operation. You will be informed about the completion of such a task by means of an automated e-mail message, and you will be able to see the effects on the page from which you ordered the operation.

Background panel tasks will be performed in order of commissioning them and at the moment when the maximum resources for their execution will be available. Thanks to this, you can be sure that tasks non-critical for your store - it will not slow down its work and at the same time be performed efficiently and optimally.

Subsequent complicated operations that require a large number of calculations and the execution of which can be postponed in time will be gradually transferred to the mechanism of background panel tasks. The functionality will be made available to all clients within two weeks.

We will not inform you about additional modules added to this system in separate blog entries. Their operation will be the same as the one presented above.
