Your attention is required: If you have an additional fee set for payment in integration with PayPal, then after December 31, 2021 we will disable its accrual

Pursuant to the PayPal payment regulations, charging an additional fee (surcharge) for the selected payment method is not allowed. Therefore, after December 31, 2021, we will disable this option for the older version of the PayPal integration.

As a reminder, in July this year we have implemented new partner integration with PayPal, in which from the very beginning we we have disabled the possibility of applying an additional payment fee. Although we plan to withdraw the older version of the integration for 2022 (we will inform you about this fact in advance), we decided to close the issue of the additional fee at the beginning of 2022.

What does this mean for me?

After December 31, 2021, it will no longer be possible to set an additional payment fee in your payment settings. If you do not disable this option yourself by the end of 2021, we will do it for you and the additional payment fee will no longer be taken into account.

Why should the store not "pass" on the customer the cost of the commission on payments?

In the distant past, it was actually quite common practice in e-commerce to add an additional fee for a selected payment, especially by card, which was aimed at shifting the often high costs of a commission on a payment transaction onto the customer of an online store.

However, the use of the so-called The surcharge for retail orders is illegal in the European Union. At the same time, many companies operating outside the EU also do not allow their use. Not only due to the fact that commissions for e.g. card payments are relatively low. There are also image-related issues and the fact that adding an additional fee for selecting a specific payment method can significantly reduce the conversion in the online store. A customer discouraged by the additional payment will simply look for goods in another store.
