WebP support on the product card and background tasks for icons and photos in Bulk edit tool.
In response to the growing demand and maturity of the WebP format, we are pleased to announce that products images can be presented in a new format. You can add them to the products from the panel and in the coming days you will also see support in API.
What is WebP
WebP is an image format that offers both lossless and lossy image compression, progressive loading and transparency. It was created as an alternative to the old PNG format and features up to 26% smaller images with the same details. In confrontation with JPEG, WebP images take up to half the space.
Why use it
The showcase of every store is a catalogue of products and high quality photos are the best way to attract attention. Unfortunately, the cost to the shop for high quality photos is the time of loading the page which indirectly impacts SEO results. To remedy this so far, the best solution was JPEG format, which offered reasonable weight of images with a relatively small loss in quality. Thanks to growing support, WebP is becoming a better alternative even to JPEG. The barrier which was lack of support in Apple products will be gone with the next update of their ecosystem.
Background tasks
In order to improve the work on the redesign of the shop and reduce the load on the panel, we have introduced a mechanism in ((offer-integration/management/group-edition-goods-massage-management-even-maintainer-even- the largest offer in the shop-idosell-shop-idosell-shop- level-internet browser/|Bulk edit)) which, for operations on images and icons, collects all selected products in packages and performs operations on them periodically without stopping the operator. The preview of tasks is possible in ADMINISTRATION/Background tasks for Bulk edit. There is also information about possible errors and a list of products on which operations have been performed.
