We have extended the possibility of selecting the friendly link structure (URL) in your online store with a new functionality, enabling modification of the existing predefined url structures

Existing solutions, in accordance with applicable standards, based on a catalog for the website language and using the so-called catalog for the page type, we supplemented with the possibility of defining your own url structure. The user can choose one of the existing predefined structures and, on its basis, set an individual url structure for selected types of pages:

  • goods cards
  • pages for a given link in the menu
  • indirect navigation page
  • blog
  • news

The user has predefined variables for each type of page, which he can use while modifying a given address. It is also possible to add fixed text to the addresses in the form of any keywords. Of course, you should remember to match the keywords to the content of the given subpages and be careful when it comes to content duplication.

After saving the changes, a popup will appear showing, for example, generated url addresses, which will allow you to preview the changes and safely plan modifications.

When introducing modifications, remember that the link structure should:

  • be unique to prevent duplicate content;
  • be logical and understandable from the point of view of the user and the bot crawling the store;
  • be simple and facilitate navigation;
  • support positioning thanks to keywords contained in the url content;
  • support the professional promotion of the store on social media thanks to precise keywords;

If you decide to change the structure of friendly links, take into account the following elements that affect the visibility of the change in your store:

  • HTML cache must be refreshed;
  • changing links in the menu will take up to 1 hour from making the change;
  • links in the IOF offer will change only when the offer is generated again;
  • links from the previously set structure will get 301 redirect;
  • url addresses in the shop's mask will be automatically replaced (this does not apply to possible manual insertion of full links, e.g. in product descriptions);
  • changing the structure in the panel is not an irreversible process - you can always go back to the previous structure;
  • thanks to the use of redirects, the change of links will not have a negative impact on integration with other websites;

Next year, we plan to continue work in the area of friendly addresses modification. We will add the possibility of removing language directories from url addresses and add direct control of product URLs and links in the menu.
